What Has God Promised You?

God works through His Word. He promises to do something and then does it. For example, in the Old Testament, we see God's promise to Abraham:

“I will make of you a great nation… and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”Genesis 12:2–3

God promised Abraham land, descendants, and blessing. This promise was fulfilled ultimately in Jesus Christ.

In the New Testament, Jesus promised the disciples would receive power for their lives and mission. This promise was fulfilled in an upper room.

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.”Acts 1:8

God keeps His promises. Even if it takes a while from our perspective. Sometimes the promises come with a condition such as obedience, faith, repentance, or abiding.

Scripture is full of promises that apply to us today. They are no less powerful than when they were first communicated. God also speaks to us today through His Word. We may also have heard from God through dreams, prophecy, leadings, or a sense of peace. No matter how God has encouraged you with a promise, always remember that God keeps His promises.

God Keeps His Promises

We may forget what God has said, but God never does. We may find it difficult to believe it will happen, but God is still working everything out anyway. Remember, God's promises are more sure and reliable than our emotions, opinions, or circumstances. His promises are not fragile wishes. They are unshakeable truths backed by His character. God is faithful, steadfast, and unchanging. We can trust Him to fulfil His promises to us.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23)

Write the Scriptures: What Has God Promised You?

Here are seven Scriptures for you to write out and meditate on. Each one contains a promise.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. (John 15:10)
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (James 1:5)

Blessing in Action: What Has God Promised You?

Take some time today to think about what God has promised you. Write it down if you haven't already, and review it at least once a week for the rest of the year. If this promise is not a Scripture, prayerfully identify a Scripture that relates to it and write that down too. Consider how you can live like you believe God will fulfil His promise toward you.
