What have I been up to?
We are at the end of the first quarter of the year, and things have been quieter than usual on the blog. I have not been idle; in fact, I have been very busy. I wanted to share some of my journey with you and highlight five lessons which I have paired with reflection prompts. I hope you will find encouragement and direction as you read. So, let's get to it: what have I been up to? You can this post using the links below. The Website Gather, Write, Pray Bible School Journals O

What Is Prayer Journalling? Benefits, Ideas, and How to Start
Let's explore prayer journalling. What is it, what are the benefits, and how do we do it? I will also share some ideas to get you started. I have written prayers in some form for decades. I love to write, so journalling came fairly naturally, though learning to write reflectively developed over time. As a child and into my teens, I kept a diary. Over the years, I have flicked through old diaries and reminisced, smiled, and cringed at the content. Although interesting, I thin

End the Year Well (1)
I am going to let you in on a secret: The last week of the year can be the most important week of the year. I have found that how I spend those days can significantly impact the direction and outcome of the year ahead. While others wait for the New Year to begin a new set of resolutions or to start working towards their fitness, finance, faith, or other goals, I have found a way to hit the ground running. And not running aimlessly, but running in line with God's will. Trust i

A Prayer of Love
I wrote this prayer, a prayer of love, while preparing for and writing the Advent Love devotional. It is inspired by 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a. As I did so, something changed within me, so I created a .pdf version to print and pray often. You can download A Prayer of Love and pray it regularly, too. Praying the Word Praying the Word can be more than adding your name or situation to Bible verses. Meditating on Scripture so that we can turn it into a prayer of the heart can help

What is Advent and How Can it Help Us Prepare for Christmas?
What comes to mind when you think about getting ready for Christmas? For many, preparations will involve decorating the home, shopping for presents, gifts, and the perfect outfit or Christmas jumper, posting Christmas cards on time, and making sure various work, social, or school Christmas events are in the diary. It may also involve organising travel or other logistics involved in spending Christmas with loved ones. Many of these are modern considerations. When Advent was fi

Six Things to Pray for the UK General Election
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a General Election will take place on 4th July 2024. In just 6 weeks UK voters will vote to determine who runs the country. We are called to pray for our nation and leaders. It can feel daunting but it does not have to. Sunak's decision was a surprise to many but not to God. God has a desired outcome for the elections and Christians all across the political spectrum can partner with God to pray for His will to be done in the UK as it i

The Prayer of Jabez
In 1 Chronicles 4:9-10, we find the account of the Prayer of Jabez. I find these two verses incredibly fascinating and packed full of revelation and insight. Jabez's name means sorrow or pain. He was so named because his mother said she brought him forth in pain. This might mean her labour was incredibly painful, or perhaps it indicates that she was going through such grief, pain or sorrow in life at the time of her pregnancy and delivery, that what should have been a cause
